ROUTE CHANGE FOR 15KM TT - MAY 1st
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008ROUTE CHANGE FOR 15KM TT - MAY 1st
After several of us rode the proposed 15km time trial course, we have made a change to a circuit instead of “out and back”.
Here is the new course. The start is the same as posted before, approx. 300m west of Crosslands on Flos 4, then go west on Flos 4, turn right (north) on Vigo Road, turn right (east) on Flos 7, turn right (south) on Crosslands Road, turn right (west) on Flos 4 to finish just beyond the starting point.
Be aware that there is a stop sign at the corner of Flos 7 and Crosslands Road.
Check it out at BCC Phelpston TT Course
See you there.
Riding Season is upon us!
Monday, April 21st, 2008Well, after a week of record temperatures, we’re set to have the 2nd Tuesday night ride tomorrow night from Fred Grant Square in downtown Barrie.
This is just a quick reminder to those members who haven’t got their 2008 membership forms in to the club, please print, fill out, and bring your completed forms and payment to the ride. Monday, January 21st, 2008Welcome to the 2008 season of the BCC. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and are now faithfully getting in their training time in preparation for the start of the ride season.
There are a number of things to update the membership on since the end of the riding season.
The BCC AGM was held on Dec.13/07 at the Midhurst Community Centre. Club elections were conducted at that time and as a result the executive is composed as follows:
President- Dave Fabbro
Treasurer- Orrin Bowser
Race Director- Mike Doble
Secretary- Robb Meier
Director of Communication- Don Gain
Year end reports were presented at that time by members of the 2007 executive. For those unable to attend the AGM, I have included the President’s Report which summarizes a number of highlights of our 2007 season.
If any club member is taking out a race licence issued by the OCA, and intends to race under the BCC colours, please insure that the BCC is shown on your application in the appropriate spot.
The 2008 membership forms are now up on the website. Please look at the Membership Information Page to download the forms. As in the past they can be mailed to the club PO Box or dropped off at The Trek Store or Bikeland in Barrie. Membership fees have remained the same this year with the exception of Junior fees. In an effort to increase our youth membership we have reduced the Junior fee to $26. Also, if the Junior has a UCI/Citizen Permit the club fee is reduced to $0. For full details refer to the Membership page.

Barrie Sunnidale Park Cyclo-Cross Race Report
Monday, November 5th, 2007Cross Racing Returns to Barrie:
On Sunday, November 4th, the Barrie Cycling Club held its 1st Annual Sunnidale Park Cross Race under mostly overcast skies in Barrie. However, the weather held for the day and 130 racers and numerous spectators were treated to a fast and exciting day of racing.
The 2.5km course had a mix of everything, including: hard-packed fast double track, grassy sections, the switchback descent leading to the stair run-up, quickly followed by the “corkscrew”section.
Judging from feedback received from all participants, the course was a hit and one of the best of the year. The numerous vantage points made for great viewing of the entire course. Sunnidale Park turned out to be a spectacular setting for fall cyclo-cross racing. The terrain was perfect and having access to the Dorion Parker Centre made our job that much easier in hosting this event. I have already sent a big thank you to the City of Barrie for allowing us access to this venue. Hopefully we will be able to continue to use it in the future.
In the Senior Men’s field, our own Andrew Watson, riding for the Barrie Cycling Club, took a well deserved and dominating win on his home course. He was followed by Peter Morse ( Jet-Fuel Coffee) in 2nd and Kyle Douglas (3 Rox racing) in 3rd. Even more amazing is that Andrew was out at 6a.m. Sunday morning helping us to set up the course.
In Senior Women, Jill Vale (Coach Chris) took the win followed by Sue Trimble Haviland (Norco) in 2nd and Christina Bouchard in 3rd.
Also, Mitch Bailey took the win in Junior Men. For full results please go to The Ontario Cycling Website.
The BCC would like to thank the following sponsors who helped make this event possible:
Tarpin Lumber (Barrie);
Bikeland (Barrie);
Harmony Printing;
Hardwood Hills;
Pearl Izumi;
Tifosi Eyewear;
Outdoor Gear;
Comfort Inn - Hart Drive, Barrie
The BCC would also like to thank all of the racers and spectators who attended and helped to make this event a huge success. On a personal note I would like to thank all those on the organizing committee who were instrumental in helping to pull this together and put in numerous hours getting the course and facility ready:
Larry Legear; Andrew Watson; Orrin Bowser; Keith Columbus; Don Gain; Mike Doble.
Also, many Thanks to Lori Gain, Leslie Johnson and Nancy Fabbro for handling registration and refreshments and Kevin Jones for first aid.
Finally, to the many volunteers who braved the elements on race day to help with this event:
Marc B.; Morgan and all the Bikeland crew; Rob Meeuwse; Ben A.; Jube and Val; Tammy; Steve; the Ricetto brothers. To anyone I have inadvertently missed I apologize.
The planning has already begun for next year and hopefully we will be back at Sunnidale Park for an even bigger and better event.

BCC to host Sunnidale Cross Race!!
Monday, October 8th, 2007It’s with great pleasure and optimism that we proudly announce the first annual Sunnidale Cross Race, to take place on Sunday November 4, 2007 at Sunnidale Park in Barrie!
In case you’re not sure what Cyclo-cross is all about, here’s a definition:
It’s a short-circuit multiple lap race lasting one hour-plus-one-lap [or less] over a variety of terrain including, but not limited to, grass, dirt and singletrack. Courses are designed to for riders to dismount and run [over obstacles, etc.] at least twice per lap [and up to four times]. Courses are usually 2.5-4 km in length. cyclo-cross is raced in the fall and winter, when conditions are typically very bad. It evolved out of a winter training regimen for road racers that emerged in the low countries and northern france after the second world war. the best way to describe it is a steeplechase for bikes.
We are extremely excited to bring this kind of racing right into the city of Barrie, we look forward to seeing many of you there on November 4th!
