FIRST CLUB TIME TRIAL 15KM - THURSDAY MAY 10.

The 2007 time trial series kicks off on Thursday May 10 on the 15/16 road in Oro and will run throughout the summer on alternate Thursdays until the end of August.

LOCATION: Oro Fairgrounds, on 15/16, 300 metres east of Line 7. There is ample parking right beside the start/finish line. Do not park in the maintenence yard off Line 7.

COURSE: All on 15/16. Go east for 7.5km to turn between Lines 12 and 13, retrace to the finish.

TIME: First rider off is at 7.01pm. Please arrive around 6.30pm to register, then warm up.

ENTRY FEE: This is $3.00, which goes into a pot that pays for an end of season “pasta feast” at Boston Pizza, similar to last year.

RULES: Riders will start at one minute intervals. No pacing allowed, so no drafting behind another rider or the occasional tractor. All competitors must be a member of the Barrie Cycling Club.

TT EQUIPMENT: All bikes are allowed, from mountain bikes through to top of the line aerodynamic TT machines and recumbents. We will recognize the style of bike when the results are posted.

TROPHIES: will be awarded at the end of the season to age categories.

VOLUNTEERS: It takes three people to run these events, a timer, a holder and a turn marshall. Each rider must be available to be a volunteer at one TT during the season.

Time trials are a great way to improve speed and overall fitness. They do tend to hurt but the pain will only last for 20 minutes or so. It’s great training.

Check the on-line race schedule for the full list of events, which includes four 40km 2 up team time trials on Saturday mornings.

May 1st Evening Road Ride

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Hello,

Our ride will be moving to Sunnidale Park and will be starting at 6:30, with another ride leaving at 6:31 sharp.

The 6:30 (a) ride will go ahead like always, this ride may have some sign sprints and a quick finish but it usually depends on who’s attending the ride. Time will be between 2 to 2:15. Likely between 50 and 60km.

The 6:31 or B ride is open to any member and is aimed towards riders new the area, new to group riding, unsure of there fitness, if its your first ride of the season it would be a good start. (or for anyone who bonked at mainsfield and needs a recovery ride) The pace will be kept in check at all times to keep everybody in a comfortable zone.

Updates regarding weather are posted in the forum section.

Important Information re: The Upcoming Season

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Hello everyone, the 2007 riding season is upon us. We have already had a few official rides, with great success. Please read the following regarding the upcoming season. I apologize in advance for the length (and my poor grammar). But there are some important issues that every member and prospective member has to know.

For any formal BCC event that is on the event calendar or listed below, all riders must be members of the BCC. Proof of membership must be provided upon request.

For rides where there is no designated ride leader, it is up to all the riders to ensure that everybody in attendance is a club member. If there is a rider in the group who is not a club member then the ride is no longer an official ride and therefore is no longer covered by the Club/OCA insurance.
Hopefully this is understood and accepted by all members. If there are complaints of club riders allowing non-club members into the official BCC events then we will have to go back to a strict Ride Leader at every ride policy. If any club member would like to volunteer to be a designated ride leader (basically making sure everybody is a club member at a ride) for any Ride, please contact me at andrew@barriecycling.com

Every effort will be made to update the event calendar and to spread the word if weather conditions warrant a cancellation. Ex. Heavy Rain, Tornado warnings, heavy snow. However it is every riders responsibility to determine if they are comfortable riding in certain conditions. Everyone is encouraged to check the website often for updates.

Also new this year we will be handing out small square BCC stickers that we ask people to attach to their bikes. Please attach them to the seat tube below the seat post clamp. So they can be easily seen from behind. This will make identifying club members easier for everyone.

Starting May 1st Tuesday evening road rides will move to Sunnidale Park at 6:30 p.m. Along with this switch we will also be adding a second group to the existing ride. Along with the regular social/moderate paced ride we will be starting a shorter more relaxed ride.(called the “B” ride) This ride is open to all club members and is aimed towards people new to area, new to group riding, or unsure of there fitness level. An experienced club member will always lead these rides. The route and directions will be posted at least 24 hours before each ride. All riders must be a BCC member. This is not a “try a ride” event. The Success of these rides and their continuance will depend on rider turnout.

We are currently looking for experienced riders in the club to lead these shorter/relaxed rides. The Leader can be any club member who has local road knowledge, and experience with group riding. Many club members meet this requirement. Please contact me at andrew@barriecycling.com
if you can lead a B ride on May 15, May 22, or June 26th. For now, but we will also be looking for riders in July and August if the rides are a success.

The Regular Tuesday evening road rides (“A” ride) will continue on as in the past. There will always be experienced members on this ride but there will not always be a designated ride leader. Ride length and route will be decided as a group mainly according to daylight.

Sunday morning road rides will always start from Fred Grant Square. They will start at 9 a.m. until May 6th when they will change to 8:30 a.m. These are usually relaxed/social rides, with varying distances and routes. These rides may not always have a designated ride leader.

Ride distances? What the route is? How far are we going? These are very good questions, The riders on the rides usually govern the rides. Whether it is a Tuesday (A) evening ride or Sunday morning ride. It is up to the riders to determine the route, speed, pace, stops all that stuff. If you are planning on riding and are unsure of distance, speed, etc. Then feel 100% free to post a question in the forum section of the website under rides The forum is there for all the club members to use for this purpose. Or e-mail me at andrew@barriecycling.com If I can’t answer your question myself, I will do my best to put you in touch with someone who I know will be on the ride.

And of course this leads back the ride leader question. If anyone would like to be a ride leader and coordinate these details for a particular ride then feel free to volunteer for this purpose.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at andrew@barriecycling.com with any comments, questions or concerns. Or info@barriecycling.com

Thanks for reading, I hope I didn’t take too much of your day. Keep the rubber side down.
