BCC Newsletter January 2008

Welcome to the 2008 season of the BCC. I hope everyone had a great holiday season and are now faithfully getting in their training time in preparation for the start of the ride season.
There are a number of things to update the membership on since the end of the riding season.

  • 1. BCC AGM
    The BCC AGM was held on Dec.13/07 at the Midhurst Community Centre. Club elections were conducted at that time and as a result the executive is composed as follows:

    President- Dave Fabbro
    Treasurer- Orrin Bowser
    Race Director- Mike Doble
    Secretary- Robb Meier
    Director of Communication- Don Gain

    Year end reports were presented at that time by members of the 2007 executive. For those unable to attend the AGM, I have included the President’s Report which summarizes a number of highlights of our 2007 season.

  • 2. OCA 2008 Club Affiliation
    If any club member is taking out a race licence issued by the OCA, and intends to race under the BCC colours, please insure that the BCC is shown on your application in the appropriate spot.
  • 3. 2008 Membership Information:
    The 2008 membership forms are now up on the website. Please look at the Membership Information Page to download the forms. As in the past they can be mailed to the club PO Box or dropped off at The Trek Store or Bikeland in Barrie. Membership fees have remained the same this year with the exception of Junior fees. In an effort to increase our youth membership we have reduced the Junior fee to $26. Also, if the Junior has a UCI/Citizen Permit the club fee is reduced to $0.   • 4. BCC Club Clothing:
    We have an inventory of BCC clothing that is available for purchase
    at very attractive pricing. The following are the prices and availability:

    LS Jersey- $68 ( Med/Lrg )
    SS Jersey- $60 ( Sm/Med/Lrg/XL/XXL )
    Bib Shorts- $80 ( Med/Lrg )
    Non-Bib- $63 ( xs/Med )
    Vests- $50 ( Lrg/XL )
    Jackets- $75 ( Med/Lrg/XL/XXL )
    Socks- $9

  • 5. BCC Ski Days:
    We will once again be doing a couple of Nordic ski days at Hardwood Hills. There will be a specially priced trail ticket of $17 and for those needing rentals they will be half price. There are plenty of classic rentals, however if you are interested in skating it will be a good idea to call ahead and reserve as there are limited numbers available. Call Dave at Hardwood Hills to make these arrangements.
    The 2 days that we will be doing this are:
    Sunday- January 27th;
    Sunday- February 24th

    Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

    1. Tuesday Night Club Rides:
    The first scheduled Tuesday ride of the season commences this evening at 6:15p.m. from Fred Grant Square. You must be a member of the BCC in order to participate in the club rides. If you have not yet joined or renewed your membership you can download a membership and waiver form from the website. Bring the completed forms and payment to the ride tonight. Please be there a little earlier to complete the paperwork so that the ride can leave on time.

    2. Club Event & Ride Schedule
    We have now posted our event schedule for the season. I invite everyone to review the schedule and if there are any questions please speak to one of the executive. We have an exciting and full schedule planned, with Tuesday and Sunday rides, Thursday TT’s and road training, Interclub races and special rides to be added as the season progresses.

    3. BCC Charity Ride:
    On Saturday, June 16th the club will be hosting a charity mountain bike ride to benefit the Regional Cancer Centre at RVH. Mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend, either as a participant or as a volunteer. The “Ride for the Centre” will benefit a great cause in our community and we will be posting further details in the next few weeks.

    4. Club Clothing:
    A number of members have purchased clothing and we expect to receive delivery at the end of the month. Full payment is due at the time of delivery. I will be contacting all who have ordered clothing to confirm total cost and the balance of payment that will be required.

    Upcoming Executive Meeting

    Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

    The executive of the BCC will be meeting on Tuesday, Jan.30th at 7p.m. This will be an open meeting and all members of the BCC ( and prospective members ) are invited to attend. The meeting will be at the Midhurst Community Centre. To get there take Bayfield St. to Findlay Mill Rd. in Midhurst, turn right and follow Findlay Mill to Doran Rd., turn left at the general store and the Community Centre is on the right hand side.
    On the agenda for the evening will be the following:

    1. Membership- The new membership forms for 2007 will be available for renewal.

    2. Clothing Order- We are in the process of getting prices on clothing for this year( shorts, jersey, jacket). It is from a new supplier( other than Sugoi). The prices are very attractive and look to be much less than last year.
    We hope to have a fit kit available to try on the clothing. If you are interested in the clothing we will need an idea of numbers at the meeting as we want to place the order within the next 2 weeks to guarantee spring delivery. Deposits for the clothing will be taken on Tuesday.

    3. Information Updates- Updates will be given on planning for the upcoming season ( races, rides, special events etc.)

    Please plan on attending. This is your club and everyone’s input is welcome and encouraged. Cheques or cash will be accepted for the clothing deposits and memberships.
