1. BCC Clothing Update-
The clothing order from Sugoi has arrived and we will be able to hand it out this week. The SS and LS jereseys are quite nice and are very similar in colour to our existing kit. As discussed with some of the members, the shorts have a slightly different colour insert than what was ordered. Sugoi has acknowledged this and has offered 2 options, return the shorts and they will be redone or accept them as they are at a discounted price. I am negotiating the discount with them and will have a final number today. I believe that with the discounted price everyone will be satisfied with the product. However, if you are not satisfied with the clothing you will not be under any obligation to take clothing you have ordered.
I will bring the clothing to the Tuesday night ride and will be at Sunnidale at 6pm. in order to hand it out prior to the ride. Also, if anyone wishes to pick up before that time give me a call and they can pick up at my home ( Monday evening ) or at Hardwood Ski & Bike during the day ( Monday or Tuesday ).
2. Hardwood Ski & Bike- Club Discounts
As a continuing sponsor of the BCC, Hardwood is offering the following discounts to BCC Club members:
Summer Seasons Passes- 25% discount off the regular price.
Summer Day Passes- 25% discount off the day pass rate. ( Discount also applies to family members riding with the member).
Bike Rentals- 25% discount.
Retail Shop- 10% discount.
To obtain any of these discounts simply identify yourself as a BCC member at the time of purchase.

Just a note to anyone interested.
We’ll be doing the annual Tour de Lake Simcoe next Sunday, June 14. Starting at 9am from Fred Grant Square.
This is a super fun ride, that can vary from 190-220ish kms depending on how everyone is feeling. The route is pretty much flat for 90% of the ride, and is not difficult.
Hopefully many of you will come out and join us for the annual classic
At the last general meeting we reviewed the quotes provided for the clothing re-order. Also, club members had an opportunity to see samples of the various items.
After some discussion, the overwhelming choice of those in attendance was the Sugoi quote.
I am in the process of finalizing the contract with Sugoi and I expect the order will be going into production shortly. A number of members placed their orders at the meeting. If you wish to add your name to the order let me know by telephone (705-735-0348 ) or e-mail ( thefabbros@rogers.com ).
The prices are as follows:
1. SS Jersey- $92
2. LS Jersey- $104
3. Bib Short- $104
4. Reular Short ( Men or Women )- $87.50
All of the items are from the RS line, Sugoi’s top level kit.
If anyone has any questions give me a call.
Dave
There will be a general meeting of the BCC on Monday, Feb. 23rd, starting at 7:30p.m.
The meeting will be held in the Community Room of The Zehr’s Store on Bayfield St. The meeting room is upstairs and the store is located directly across from the Georgian Mall.
On the agenda for the meeting will be a clothing re-order. We will be taking orders for clothing at that time and deposits can be paid by either cash or cheque. We have received 2 levels of quotation for the clothing. The preference at this time appears to be for a better quality of clothing with a slightly higher price. The decision as to which clothing to order will be made at the meeting. Please plan on attending if you wish to order or want to try any of the clothing. Full fit kits are available for viewing.
This will also be an opportunity to renew your membership for this season. As it is an open meeting, any issues of interest may be added to the agenda for discussion. The cycling season is just around the corner. Our club depends on the input and opinions of the membership. Please plan on attending so we can hear from you and get your feedback.

Happy New Year to all BCC members and their families. Further to Robb’s e-mail to everyone, we have selected Friday, January 23rd as the evening for the BCC Winter Social and Ski Night. It will be held at Hardwood Ski & Bike. This will be a great chance for us to get together in the off season with many of the Club members that we see only during the riding season.
Judy Doble has made arrangements for a catered meal for the evening and the following would be included:
Salad- Garden lettuces enhanced with natural seedlings,apple slices & oven dried tomatoes. Topped with a chiffonade of yam strips, herbed goat cheese rounds & house vinaigrette.
Main Course- Lakeland farmed chicken tossed with woodland mushrooms, sweet peppers & Tuscan Tomato sauce topped with grated craft cheeses.
Dessert- Variety of pastries, gourmet cookies & cakes
Coffee, Tea & soft Drinks
Cost- $22/person including all taxes etc.
Spouses and significant others are definitely welcome and encouraged to attend.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
In addition, Hardwood now has lights for night skiing on a 2km loop. If you have a headlight there is also skiing available on 3 designated trails. The lights will be on until 9 p.m. that evening. We have arranged a special Ski ticket price of $7 for the evening. Also, for those needing ski rentals they will be available at a special discounted rate of $13 for either classic or skate equipment ( total cost – $20 ). There are plenty of rentals so there is no need to reserve equipment.
These rates will apply anytime after 4 p.m. If you are able to get out a bit early from work it would be great to get out and get some ski time before supper. For the keeners there should still be time to get back out for a bit after supper.
For this evening to be a success we need an idea as to numbers and a commitment for the meal by Wednesday, Jan. 14th. If you plan on attending please call Dave or Judy during the day at 487-3775. You can also e-mail Robb or Dave( thefabbros@rogers.com ).
Hope to see everyone there for what should be a great, fun evening.
Dave
Hey everyone,
I’ve got some exciting news about our year end social event/dinner. We’ve been in talks with Jack Sasseville from Hardwood Ski and Bike about combining our dinner, with a little bit of night skiing! He’s agreed to offer us 50% of the standard night skiing rate, down from $15 to only $7.50. He’s also giving us a discount on rentals, so there’s no reason we all can’t do some skiing! $13 for classic skis, or $20 for skate.
The only thing left to do is choose a date for the event. At our AGM last week, we discussed holding it on Thursday January 22. Now that Dave has spoken to Jack, we could hold it on Friday, January the 23rd if that date is more agreeable to everyone.
I ask you to please respond to this email to let us know which date works better for more people! If you can change the subject of your reply email to the date you prefer that will make it easier for us to go through and tally the responses, thank you in advance!
Also, I’d like to apologize for not getting the word out about our AGM last week. I had used the old web interface to send an email to all of our members, unfortunately after speaking with several of you, I’ve learned that it didn’t work, and nobody got the email. I have now created my own manual list of members/email addresses to ensure this never happens again. I’d also like to remind everyone to check into the website http://www.barriecycling.com on a weekly basis as we do post any and all relevant info there as well.
Happy Holidays, I look forward to seeing everyone in January!
The BCC AGM will be held on Thursday, Dec 11th, starting at 7p.m. The meeting will be held at the Midhurst Community Centre on Doran Rd. in Midhurst. A number of items will be on the agenda for discussion that evening including:
1. Review of 2008 activities and reports from the executive.
2. Discussion of planned activities for 2009, including:
a) 3rd annual BCC cross race;
b) Youth Road race;
c) Possible Charity Ride event;
d) Club Race schedule, including TT’s etc.
e) Club Ride schedule & practices.
It is important that all club members have an opportunity to have input into the direction of the club. Please plan on attending.
Also, elections for the executive will be held on that evening. All of the existing members of the executive have indicated that they are prepared to stand again for their positions.
However, nominations are still open for any position and will be until Wednesday, Dec 10th. If you wish to stand for a position or nominate someone else you may contact me at 735-0348 or by e-mail at dave@barriecycling.com
Hope to see everyone there on Dec.11th.
Dave
On Sunday, November 2nd, the Barrie Cycling Club will be hosting its 2nd Annual Barrie Cyclo-Cross Race. Due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to host the event at Sunnidale Park. This year the event will be held at Hardwood Ski & Bike, a short 15 minute drive north of Barrie. We were fortunate to secure Hardwood as a location for the event and a course has been laid out that we’re sure will be a hit with both seasoned and novice cross racers alike. Hardwood has been the site of numerous provincial and national level events and was the site of Cross Nationals in 2005.
For further information, directions and a course map go to http://www.barriecycling.com/cross-race.
Registration opens at 8a.m and closes 30 minutes prior to each race start. The course will be open for pre-riding after 8am on Nov. 2nd.
PLEASE NOTE: One day licenses will be available for this event at a cost of $5. They can be purchased at the time of registration.
Cost of the event is $25 pre-registered, and $30 day of registration for all categories other than Junior and Under 17. For these categories the cost is $20 pre-registered and $25 day of event. All riders are encouraged to pre-register, either through the OCA website or by calling Hardwood Ski and Bike at 705-487-3775.
Race starts will be as follows:
10 a.m. – Under 17; Senior 3/4 Male; Beginner Male; Master 3 Male
11:30 a.m. – Junior (17-18) Male& Female; Senior Female; Beginner Female; Master Female; Master 2 Male
1 p.m. – Senior 1/2/3 Male; Master 1 Male
There will be a cash purse for Senior 1/2/3 Male & Senior Female, along with great merchandise prizes for all other categories. Awards will be held immediately following the completion of each race start.
The BCC would like to thank the following sponsors who have made this event possible:
Days Inn Barrie;
Tarpin Lumber (Barrie);
Hardwood Ski and Bike; Pearl Izumi; Sugoi Clothing & Ryder Eyewear.
The course is approximately 2.5kms in length and offers a great mix of the terrain features at Hardwood Ski & Bike. There are fast sections of grass and doubletrack, combined with numerous technical, twisty and bermed sections, 1 double barrier, one run-up and a short, sandy dismount. The course then ducks into the woods for 2 fast sections before heading to a quick descent leading to the start / finish area.
This course is guaranteed to be a hit for all levels of rider, from beginner to expert.
For those looking for overnight accomodation Days Inn Barrie is offering a special rate of $99. Please mention that you are attending the race in order to obtain the special rate.
Hope to see you there.
