Hello Members
Some more time sensitive material for you.
Our clothing order is not filling up as much as we need it to. To place orders with Sugoi we need two items (i.e. shorts and Jerseys) with 24 each. Then after that for other items we can order 12 each. i.e. Jackets Arm warmers etc.
We have not hit those minimums, the club is willing to order a couple extra pieces to fill in gaps, but we need a good deal more orders from club members. Another option would be to order from a different company with lower minimums, but pricing will go up and quality could go down to be honest. And this would take time to redo artwork get another fit kit etc..
We will keep the order open to see if we can get more orders.
The Tuesday evening rides are changing times to 6:00 pm starting next week. Allowing for more riding.
The final two time trials are also moving up to 6:30 with registration at 6:00. And yes the last time trial Sept 8th, will be an Interclub Time trial we will be hosting on our beautiful Ingram road course. The BCC has invited Mountainview and the Newmarket Eagles to a showdown. Cue epic showdown music.
The BCC has entered into a partnership with the Simcoe County Heart and Stroke foundation for the Centurion Canada event at Blue Mountain September 16-18. The price goes up on Monday so its a good time to enter. You can choose any of the events. I have attached the info poster to this e-mail. A great way for the club to raise funds and possibly start laying the groundwork for our own fundraising rides in the future.CENTURION POSTER

BCC executives
Hello Club members,
I have managed to hack my way into the main page so this will be another way to pass along information. The executive would prefer to pass along information via the website as much as possible and keep the e-mails to a minimum and for more time sensitive or urgent info.
We encourage you to bookmark this main page and check back often.
The clothing fit kit will remain at the trek store downtown, available for members to try on sizing and leave a deposit cash or cheques accepted. Thank you to the trek store for the service to the club. The clothing order deadline is the end of this week, August 19.
Upcoming rides for the week are the regular Monday evening MTB ride at 6:30 this evening in Midhurst. The Tuesday evening rides at 6:30.
This is also TT week, out on the new buttery smooth and flat Ingram road course. Thursday (18th) first rider off at 7:00 p.m. be there early to warm up and sign up. This aids in the rider staging.
Here is a map with directions via HWY 400 from Barrie, it is a very quick drive and right off the highway.

And of course Sunday morning 9 am at Fred Grant Square.

The program will include three wedneday evenings skills sessions at Sunnidale park on Sept 7, 14, 21, followed by the 4 Wednesday evening Cyclocross races at Hardwood ski and Bike on Sept 28th, then Oct 5, 12 and 19th.
The program will conclude with two Southern Cup races held at the Barrie Sports complex on Oct 23, and Hardwood Ski and Bike on Oct 30th.
More info and registration details are available by e-mailing andrew@barriecycling.com
Food for thought section:
I often receive e-mails asking if the club offers more relaxed “touring” paced rides. There seems to be a lot of interest in, general speaking, slower, shorter, social type outings, most likely suited for Sundays or Saturdays. I can speak for the executives in saying we would love nothing more than to offer and support a ride like that. However we need a person or a small group of people to come forward to organize and run something like that.
With a growing club we are starting to come to our limits of what a very small group or volunteers can organize. If the club is to continue to grow we also need our volunteer, organizing committees, ride leader numbers to grow as well.
Cheers

Adopt-a-Road, Announcement, Club Events, Group Rides, Time Trial Series
Hey everyone,
Tonight’s family ride is being cancelled due to the uncertain weather forecast, and also the fact there is a car show at the Heritage Park meeting place. Next week, we will return with a new meeting point, and the ride will be deemed a ‘club trial ride’ meaning that anyone is free to join us, all that will be required is that you first sign a waiver before participating!
Tomorrow night, we Christen our brand new Time Trial location on Ingram Rd.
This course is a full 7.5km in length, and features entirely brand new asphalt, just laid down this summer. It promises to be a very fast course. Don’t miss the opening event tomorrow, beginning at 7pm.
Some additional information from our Time Trial Coordinator, Mike Doble:
The start is on Ingram Road 1.5km east of Hwy 93, north of Craighurst. The TT goes east to turn at 7.5km and return to starting point. Parking will be on the eastbound shoulder of Ingram Road.
The course length has been independantly verified as correct to 15km by Jack Sasseville and Andrew Watson. Jack said he took a good 20sec off his best 15/16 time when he did a test last week.
Anyone riding to the start is best to go north on 93. The distance from Georgian Drive and Hwy 93 is 18.6km, which is just about 3km longer than to the 15/16 start.
Anyone driving from Barrie is best to go north on Hwy 400 and take the south bound exit at Hwy 93, then turn left approx. 200m south of the interchange.
As usual, sign on will open at 6.30pm, with first rider off at 7.01pm.
One final point to make; we would like to thank everyone who came out and participated in our spring road clean up day on Ridge Rd. this past Sunday. We have adopted the stretch of Ridge Road from Range Rd, to the 3rd line of Oro. Look for our signs the next time you’re riding out that way!!

See you on the road!
cheers,
robb
Hey everyone,
Just a reminder that tomorrow morning is our Adopt a road clean up day. We’ll be meeting at Ridge Rd and the 3rd line of Oro at 9am tomorrow, Sunday. We expect the clean up to take two hours.
We have removed the Sunday ride from the Calendar for tomorrow also.
We look forward to seeing many of you out tomorrow, helping to give something back to our community.
cheers,
robb
Announcement, Club Events, Youth Race
Hello Members,
The Youth race is fast approaching, it is this Saturday. Our tireless organizers Cliff and Robb are still very much in need of more help on race day. Help would be greatly appreciated please call or email Cliff at home 705 728 9065 or email clifflilley@hotmail.com. The BCC has gained a wonderful reputation for our OCA sanctioned events since starting out with a Cross race in Sunnidale in 2007. We are one of the most well respected OCA event organizers out there.
This is one of two OCA sanctioned races our club puts on throughout the year and we would like to continue on doing even more races. However if we do not have enough volunteers we will need to cut back from doing these events in the future. Our club is shaped by our members, all you need to do is come out willing to help and Cliff will find something for you to do.
Also if you know of any High School students who need community service hours this does count towards that.
Ride safe

Adopt-a-Road, Announcement, Club Events, Group Rides, MTB Rides, Time Trial Series, Youth Race
What a hectic week.
Yesterday the BCC hosted the first interclub race of the season. We saw about 50 racers come out on a beautiful sunny day. The race was won by our own Orrin Bowser, congratulations to him on a sandbag well played
We also had a great Sunday morning ride, lead by its weekly leader, Tony Miranda, care of the Trek Store Barrie! Tony will be at Fred Grant every Sunday morning at 9am, ready to lead you on a great, fun, social touring ride.
Tonight we’ve got the first of our weekly MTB rides kicking off. This year, we’re lucky enough to have Bikeland rider Linnley Clarke leading each & every Monday night ride. So you’ll always have a familiar face to greet you. The rides begin at 6:30 and leave from the Simcoe County Office building in Midhurst. The ride is a social ride, and you will not be dropped. If gaps appear, the lead riders will pause and wait for you to catch up! We look forward to seeing you there.
Tuesday will be the first of our dual Tuesday night group rides. We’ve also moved to our ‘summer’ timeslot, with both rides starting at 6:30pm. The downtown, Fred Grant Square ride is our social group ride. The Tuesday night social ride will be a fun ride for all. There will be no racing for sprint signs and every effort will be made to keep the group together. As the season progresses riders’ abilities increase so as time goes on the average speed will increase. If you haven’t been on a bike yet, and it’s July, email us before coming out.
The Sunnidale Park ride will feature higher speeds, sign sprints, and possibly some paceline riding. It’s geared towards the more serious & experienced cyclists, who are looking to get a little training in during the week, in addition to a social ride. All are welcome, but you may be dropped, so ensure that you are self sufficient in terms of routing & repairs at minimum.
This Thursday brings us the first of our venerable TT series. We will be riding on the Oro Course at the 7th line and 15/16. As in previous years, we must thank Mike & Judy Doble for taking on the chore of timing the TTs, and ensuring everyone gets away in a safe manner, without their dedication, we would not be able to offer the TT series. The weather looks good, we hope to see lots of you out, setting down a baseline time, so you can watch your fitness progress over the course of the season.
Upcoming events this month are the Youth Race on May 21. This will require some volunteer hours to clean the sand from the course, and we’ve also got to clean our adopted section of Ridge Road, through the town of Shanty Bay. Stay tuned for date announcements for each of these undertakings. Thankfully, with these behind us, the rest of the summer is all about riding.
cheers,
robb

Announcement, Club Events, Learn to Group Ride Program
The Barrie Cycling Club is excited to offer a 4 week, learn to ride in a group program beginning this Saturday, April 30 2011. The program is designed to help you build your confidence to a point that riding on the road is no longer scary, and riding in a group feels natural.
The learn to ride program will roll into a rider development course over the four sessions. Our mandate is to provide cyclists with the skills & experience so they can continue to improve their fitness levels and cycling abilities. Our club goal is to provide the knowledge & camaraderie for a healthy and fit cycling lifestyle whether it be for the beginner cyclist or competitive racer.
We’ll be hosting the event at St. Vincent Park beginning at 9:30am on Saturday April 30, Saturday May 7 & 14. Then we break for a week while we host our Youth Race, then the following week, on Saturday the 28th, we’ll have our final session which will focus on bike repair, and maintenance, to ensure you’re always riding a safe bike.
