BCC to host Sunnidale Cross Race!!

October 8th, 2007

It’s with great pleasure and optimism that we proudly announce the first annual Sunnidale Cross Race, to take place on Sunday November 4, 2007 at Sunnidale Park in Barrie!

In case you’re not sure what Cyclo-cross is all about, here’s a definition:
It’s a short-circuit multiple lap race lasting one hour-plus-one-lap [or less] over a variety of terrain including, but not limited to, grass, dirt and singletrack. Courses are designed to for riders to dismount and run [over obstacles, etc.] at least twice per lap [and up to four times]. Courses are usually 2.5-4 km in length. cyclo-cross is raced in the fall and winter, when conditions are typically very bad. It evolved out of a winter training regimen for road racers that emerged in the low countries and northern france after the second world war. the best way to describe it is a steeplechase for bikes.

We are extremely excited to bring this kind of racing right into the city of Barrie, we look forward to seeing many of you there on November 4th!

BCC HILL CLIMB CHAMPIONSHIPS - SEPT. 22 AT MOONSTONE

September 21st, 2007

Our final club race of the summer season is the hill climb at 10.00am on Saturday, September 22nd at Moonstone.

The course will start at the Moonstone ski hill parking lot (same as the Interclub race) go up Mount St. Louis hill but instead of going to the top, you will turn on the 5th which kicks up again. I have to measure it but it should be around 2.5km.

The championship will be done as a time trial but I’m thinking that to make it worthwhile coming out we could follow it up with a mass start race over the same course as a handicap start. The slowest rider from the TT climb would go first, then the next slowest through to the fastest off last, all separated by the TT time differences. The theory being that you all come across the line together, causing a judging nightmare.

I have measured the hill climb course and have 2.7km from the start at the entrance to the Moonstone parking lot up Mount St. Louis Road then right to the crest of the hill on Line 5.

The first stage will be the time trial with the first rider off at 10.00am then 30 sec intervals. The time differences between riders will become the handicap start for the second stage. Slowest rider off first through to the fastest. The first over the line is the winner of the second event.

The championship will be decided by points awarded for your position in both stages. To avoid the incredibly remote possibility of someone “sandbagging” it in the time trial for a head start in the second stage, points will be weighted towards the time trial performance and less points for the handicapped mass start. The combined total points will decide the champions in the various age groups, both male and female.

Please arrive by around 9.30am to sign on (no entry fee) so we can start on time at 10.00am. The second stage will start as soon after we get the start order sorted out.
