nterclub Orientation Ride
When: Saturday May 13 @ 9:00
Where: Oro 15/16 Sideroad and the 7th Line (parking by the church on 15/16 Sideroad)
This is an introduction for those interested in learning more about the sport side of cycling.
Required fitness level = ANY (but you are generally comfortable on one of the Tuesday rides)
Q. What is a Interclub Race? A. Interclubs are a fun introduction to racing, which can be best described as practice racing or training races. They are run as an Australian Pursuit. Great…umm, what’s that?
The main difference from regular racing is that it’s handicapped by ability.
You will be seeded in smaller groups of your peers.
Similar to Tuesday groups A,B,C,D, but renamed 1,2,3,4 & Scratch (5)
Group 1, being the slowest, starts first with the largest time gap to the next group (2), and so on, with the aim of the faster groups catching the slower before the end of the race. Hopefully the slower groups work efficiently to not let that happen! (FYI history has shown far more winners form Group 2.)
This format of racing is very inclusive and much safer than mass start events.
Interclub is made up from riders from Barrie, Newmarket & Collingwood, with each hosting races on home courses.
Who would benefit from the Interclub Orientation Ride? Those riders who are:
- looking to improve their drafting skills.
- interested in participating in a grand fondo
- wanting to learn about how to work as a team and be faster with the help of a team
- thinking about getting into racing.
This Orientation ride will focus on Group 1 &2 level riders.
Coaching topics may include:
- Drafting efficiency and economy
- Getting caught/passed safely
- Catching slower groups & passing safely
This a good opportunity to brush up on skills before the first race of the year.
Depending on who shows up we could have a group 3&4 training ride as well.
There are three races in the series this year plus a time trial.
